Najm Oracle Cloud Migration

Najm for Insurance Services is a closed, unlisted joint-stock company established in 2007 as a result of cooperation between the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) and the General Department of Traffic, aiming to promote the vehicle insurance sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Najm offers a variety of services, including accident review, damage assessment, and insurance claims, with a focus on addressing the needs of insured vehicles in Saudi Arabia. Since 2009, Najm has expanded to include minor accident review services and now provides a comprehensive range of insurance-related solutions for citizens, residents, and visitors. Serving over 40 cities across Saudi Arabia, Najm's skilled workforce specializes in managing accident reviews, damages, claims, compensations, and more.

The department having difficulties in achieving responsibilities, these responsibilities include:

  • Managing a large volume of transactions across insurance companies
  • Ensuring the system’s stability during data migration
  • Minimizing downtime during migration activities
  • Maintaining the integrity of customer data while transitioning to a cloud environment
  • Supporting ongoing operational activities without interruption

The Pain: The Situation Prior to Project Implementation

Najm was experiencing challenges with its existing on-premises infrastructure, which was becoming increasingly difficult to manage and scale. In order to stay productive  and maintain operational efficiency, Najm sought to migrate its critical applications and data to CloudThe main pain point was ensuring a smooth and seamless migration of the data and system with minimal disruption to its services.

Najm needed a solution that would avoid lengthy downtime, as their NajmNet system is critical to daily operations, supporting a high volume of transactions and interactions with numerous insurance companies. Our task was to plan and execute this migration while preserving the stability of the production environment.

The Proposed Solution:

The Proposed Solution:

egabi initially developed NajmNet Application in 2012 and has provided ongoing support services since then.

In 2023, egabi crafted a Najm Cloud Migration Strategy tailored to Najm’s unique requirements. We collaborated closely with Najm’s team to ensure a smooth transition from on-premises to the Cloud, prioritizing stability and minimizing disruption to critical services. The strategy emphasized reducing downtime to maintain continuous operations while seamlessly migrating data and applications.

Our approach was designed to mitigate any risks associated with moving a critical system like NajmNet to the cloud, while ensuring that the final solution provided improved scalability, security, and performance for their ongoing operations.

The Steps Taken: Our Path Towards the Solution

In an effort to address the challenges at hand, we embarked on a strategic approach, ensuring that our proposed solution was effectively and meticulously implemented:

  • Developed a comprehensive migration plan that covered all phases of the transition.
  • Created a detailed testing plan to ensure data integrity and system functionality before going live.
  • Implemented a rollback plan as a safeguard to ensure any unforeseen issues could be addressed swiftly without impact to live services.
  • Conducted meticulous testing to validate the solution before the final migration.

Challenges Faced During Implementation

  • NajmNet is a mission-critical system that processes transactions for numerous insurance companies, handling a high volume of operations. Coordinating downtime was a challenge due to the system's significance and the constant flow of transactions.
  • Minimizing Downtime. Through close collaboration with NajmNet's team, we were able to limit the downtime to only 55 minutes, with the migration taking place early in the morning at 5 a.m. to minimize disruption to operations.
Situation After Successful Implementation

Situation After Successful Implementation

The implementation of the project brought significant enhancements to our system and addressed the issues we previously faced:

  • NajmNet is now fully operational on cloud.
  • There was no significant disruption to operations, with minimal downtime during the transition.
  • Najm can now leverage the scalability, security, and efficiency of the cloud, enhancing its ability to serve customers across Saudi Arabia.
